Police are appealing for information or witnesses following a burglary at a property in Ystradgynlais. During the early hours of Thursday 6th February 2014 the occupant of an address situated at Station Road in Coelbryn near to Ystradgynlais was alerted to the presence of an unknown male in the property. Thieves have broken into the museum at Parc Howard Mansion and stole pieces of Llanelly Pottery. Two cases of the pottery were broken into and stolen during the theft which took place on the evening of Wednesday, February 12. The incident was reported to police by Carmarthenshire County Council staff who discovered the break in this morning. Executive Board Member for museums Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “This was a shameful incident, these items are of historical importance to the town and to steal them is a despicable act. “We hope the police will recover them and also catch the thieves who did this. “We would appeal to anyone who has information about this incident to contact the police.” Llanelly Pottery is part of the heritage of the town and has been on show at the Mansion House for many years. It was manufactured from 1839 until 1922 at a site where Asda in Llanelli now stands. Llanelly Pottery continues to hold a fascination for many enthusiasts and collectors.

Police officers in Newtown are investigating a burglary at Maes-y-wennol Care Home, at Llanidloes. Two televisions and a DVD player were stolensome time around 4am on Saturday 14th December 2013. “This crime has had a considerable impact on the residents and staff of the home, leaving them bereft at Christmas,” said PC Karma Evans. “We’re appealing for witnesses or for anyone who has any information to get in touch and contact me at Newtown Police Station on 101 or call the independent charity Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 with any anonymous information.”

Householders in Carmarthenshire are being urged to help police to continue to beat the burglars – by making their homes more secure. The number of burglaries dropped to 224 across the whole of Carmarthenshire last year and householders are being asked to play their part in ensuring that the fall continues. The Community Safety Partnership’s Acquisitive Crime Action Group, which has representatives from the police, fire and rescue service and Carmarthenshire County Council, has discussed what householders can do to make their homes a harder target for burglars. Burglaries fell by 17 per cent in 2011/12, 224 crimes compared to 270 in 2010/11. That means 46 fewer victims. So far this year, there’s been a further reduction of 23 per cent compared to April-June last year with 13 fewer burglaries.
