Sports Aid lunch in Carmarthen raises more than £6000

The latest 'Sporting Lunch' hosted by the West Wales Committee of Sports Aid Wales at the Royal Ivy Bush Hotel in Carmarthen was a huge success. More than £6000 was raised for Sports Aid Wales, the voluntary organisation that recognises and supports young sporting talent in Wales. The guest speaker was celebrated broadcaster and author Roy Noble. David Butler, chairman of the West Wales Committee of Sports Aid Wales, said: "It was a wonderful afternoon and one of the best lunches we have organised. Roy Noble was an excellent speaker and we raised plenty of funds for Sports Aid through a silent auction and a more vocal public auction conducted by John Eirian Davies. "Alan Hughes, vice-president of Sports Aid Cymru/Wales, gave the loyal toast and there was also a speech from Mark Oliver, director and chair of Sports Aid Cymru/Wales. Our secretary Richard Gealy was Master of Ceremonies. "Our grateful thanks go to Delme Owens, of Carmarthenshire Tyre Servi

A Burry Port design and manufacturing business has helped provide the ‘cutting edge’ to a new specialist children’s hair salon which is reckoned to be the biggest in Wales. The Tickled salon is opening in High Street, Swansea, this week (May 1), with owner and stylist Damian Hart grateful for the help of his engineering expert friend Owain Davies. Mr Davies is the managing director of Amcanu, a firm which normally provides tailored sheet metal solutions for industrial purposes. He explained: “Damian was looking for something novel for his new salon and hit upon the idea of using toy quad bikes and cars as ‘barbershop chairs’. “We enjoy a challenge here at Amcanu and we were able to adapt battery and pedal-powered toy vehicles to suit Damian’s needs. “With close attention to detail and safety, we were to provide him with some eye-catching ‘barbershop chairs’ for his new venture. “Our normal work sees us building giant acoustic enclosures for noisy industrial machinery.
