Llanelli Rotary Curry Night aims to boost End Polio Now campaign

Image
As part of the global End Polio Now campaign, Llanelli Rotary Club members are staging a fundraising Curry and Quiz Night next month. The event is at 7pm on Thursday, May 4 at The Stag public house in Five Roads. The evening is being organised by Rotarian Joanna Isaac. Tickets are £10 and are available from any member of Llanelli Rotary Club. Joanna said: "It promises to be a fun evening and we will be raising cash on the night to help boost the End Polio Now campaign. "Everything we raise locally in Llanelli gets 'cash-matched' higher up the ladder. "We have already held a number of very successful events in aid of the charity and this Curry and Quiz Night should enable us to submit a significant total towards what is a very worthy international campaign to rid the world of polio."

Enforcement officers will be visiting other hotspot areas across the county and handing out posters to premises which have problems with cigarette littering to remind smokers that if they’re caught littering they could get fined £75 or a maximum of £2,500 if prosecuted through the magistrates court. Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection, Cllr Jim Jones, said: “Many people do not think of cigarette ends as litter, but it is. Dropping a cigarette end is no different from throwing away any other sort of litter. It makes the area look ...

Five Roads concert a success

The St David's Day concert staged at Five Roads Community Hall on Friday night was a big success. There was a packed house at the hall for the event organised by the Five Roads School PTFA parent-teacher association. Children from Five Roads School (above) stole the show with their musical and recitation spot. Cor Meibion Dyffryn Aman (below) were the special guests and they provided a splendid and varied evening's entertainment under the musical direction of Ian Llewellyn. The compere for the evening was someone called Robert Lloyd - less said about him, the better!
