New veterans group launched in Carmarthen
A new group, the Carmarthen Ex-Forces Personnel and Families Support Group, will be holding monthly drop-in sessions as of Thursday September 27 to help ex-forces personnel and their families gain access to the services and support they are entitled to.
They will also signpost veterans to other national associations who can advise on housing, advocacy services, pensions, benefits and mental health issues.
The group is being supported by Anneline Rogers of West Wales action for Mental Health and Cath Francis of MIND. Cryfhau Cymunedau (Strengthening Communities), part of RDP Sir Gâr’s Innovative Hubs scheme, is helping to fund the meeting room for the group.
Cryfhau Cymunedau is funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007 – 2013 which is funded by the Welsh Government and European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
Project Officer David Saywell can assist community groups and individuals by arranging meetings, consultation events, awareness sessions, skills and capacity building workshops and seminars.
Volunteer Joseph De Lacey said: “It’s going to be a drop in centre for veterans, regardless of how long they have served, and their families – a chance to have a cuppa and a chat as well as getting info on help available to them.”
The Carmarthen Ex-Forces Personnel and Families Support Group will also provide information on training courses and volunteering opportunities and they want to encourage veterans to volunteer with them and get involved with the established national organisations too.
