ShelterBox mobilises to help Japan

Llanelli Rotary Club's demonstration of a ShelterBox attracted a lot of interest during the Rotary Day show staged at the St Elli Centre in Llanelli.
The ShelterBox is a key aid package for disaster zones, such as the one currently being tackled in Japan.
"It is a fine example of how the Rotary movement works, not just locally, but on a global scale to help people in disasters such as the earthquake and tsunami in Japan," said Llanelli Rotary Club's press officer Robert Lloyd.
"It is on occasions like this that Rotary's international spirit comes the fore. In the Haiti earthquake the ShelterBox project was deployed to ease suffering. Now, once again, it is being used in Japan.
"Rotary works very closely with the ShelterBox charity to make sure the aid gets to the areas where it is most needed. The people of Llanelli were very interested in the ShelterBox demonstration staged in the St Elli Centre."
ShelterBox were on the ground in Japan within less than 24 hours after the earthquake struck.
ShelterBox maintain a pre-positioned stock of boxes at key locations around the world enabling the organisation to respond quickly to any requests for aid.
At the heart of every ShelterBox is a disaster relief tent for a family of up to 10 people.
The 'Box' is literally a survival pack in a box and contains a stove, basic tools and other equipment.
