Sevens rugby date at Aberystwyth

May Day bank holiday weekend will see more than 2500 visitors descend on Aberystwyth University’s Blaendolau playing fields for Rugby 7s - the sporting event of the year.
Attracting a variety of players across a spectrum of backgrounds and abilities, Rugby 7s is now in its 12th successful year as an Aberystwyth University Guild of Students event.
The event is organised by the Athletic Union at the Guild of Students and receives input and guidance from Aberystwyth University’s Sports Centre, Mid Wales Referees, Llanelli and District Referees, WRU, Machynlleth and Aberystwyth Rugby Football Clubs.
This year’s Rugby 7s weekend will take place on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd May at Blaendolau playing fields, Aberystwyth.
A estimated 900 players across four leagues will compete for a variety of trophies and cash prizes as well as the coveted Rugby 7s cup.
The Men’s and Women’s leagues have been sponsored by local Aberystwyth businesses, The Royal Pier and The Academy.
Car parking facilities, a fully licensed Bar, shop and catering will all be available on site.
Spectators and supporters are welcome at only £1 a day!
Abby Nascimento, Athletic Union Officer, Aberystwyth University Guild of Students, said:"Rugby 7s is a key weekend in Aberystwyth’s sporting calendar, providing an opportunity for players of all abilities to compete in a great atmosphere, and hopefully some good weather! Although the competition is open to any entrants and we are happy to welcome teams from all over the country, it is also a great way for Aberystwyth University students past and present, to showcase their sportsmanship and enjoy the social aspects that this competition offers. For the first time ever, this year there will be prize funds for the winners of every league, making it slightly more competitive. It really is one of the best weekends of the year and I cannot wait!"
