Jeff Thomas to stand down at Carmarthen Town

Carmarthen Town AFC has announced that Jeff Thomas will shortly stand down as chairman of the Welsh Premier League side.
Mr Thomas, pictured above, has been at the helm for the last 14 years, a period of unprecedented success on and off the football field.
Carmarthen’s achievements during his years of office include -
• Taking part in three Welsh Cup Finals, winning once
• Taking part in two League Cup Finals, winning once
• Consistently finishing in the top six of the Welsh Premier League
• 10 European Cup appearances
• Helping to bring the ground up to UEFA European standard with European games held at Richmond Park. Capacity of 2,500 includes 1056 seats in their grandstand
• Opening of a new state of the art Community Centre, just completed at a cost of £400,000 incorporating Social Club, Match Hospitality Suites with conference facilities and meeting rooms available for hire.
Mr Thomas said the search was now on for a successor.
The ideal candidate to take over as the new chairman of Carmarthen AFC will be forward-looking, ambitious and enthusiastic, he said.
Mr Thomas said: “It would be great if the new chairman was prepared to invest in what is a very ambitious club with a great track record, but it is not essential.
“What is essential is that the new chairman has an extensive network of business contacts. The new chairman can then build on extensive links with the community and encourage further much-needed investment which will help keep Carmarthen in the top tier of Welsh football.”
Carmarthen AFC vice-chairmen Robert Lloyd and Anthony Parnell said in a statement that the club owed a huge debt of gratitude to Mr Thomas.
The statement said: “Mr Thomas has sound and consistent track record of attracting sponsorship support for Carmarthen Town AFC.
“He has been a major asset for the club.
“The successful Community programme and the Youth Academy are two fine legacies from the Jeff Thomas era.
“The club also now has Limited Company status and will shortly look to increase revenue with share issue.
“Mr Thomas has built a lively and efficient committee structure with a wide range of talents from within the local community.
“We are sure that as the retiring Chairman, Mr Thomas will, if required, retain an active role within the club structure. Certainly, his advice will be crucial as Carmarthen Town AFC enters a new era.
“Mr Thomas goes out on a high. We have a debt-free club with a high level of credibility within Welsh football and the local community.
“Qualification for Europe remains our big goal for future seasons as it brings with it the potential for six-figure income to further develop the club.
“The new clubhouse facilities are also attracting great interest and they also provide the club with further opportunities to attract more income.
“Carmarthen Town AFC is confident that, with such a fine foundation laid by Jeff Thomas, that it will be an extremely attractive proposition for any supporter who would like to consider taking over the reins of chairman.”
Anyone who wishes to express an interest in taking over as chairman of Carmarthen Town AFC is asked to contact vice-chairman Robert Lloyd for an informal chat on 0777 683637, Jeff Thomas on 01267 222851 or 07813 69774 or Gareth Jones on 07814 262656 or 01267 233359.
