Ammanford man fined for litter
A man has been fined £75 for dropping litter in Ammanford Park.
The council’s environmental enforcement officers were on patrol in the area and issued the man with a fixed penalty notice.
Failure to pay could lead to prosecution in the magistrates court and a maximum fine of £2,500.
It is now hoped this fine will act as a warning to would-be litter louts.
Head of Street Scene David Hughes said: “Dropping litter is against the law, whether it is discarding rubbish from a vehicle, throwing cigarette ends or spitting out chewing gum.
“This type of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and the culprits will face hefty fines.”
Carmarthenshire County Council is working hard to clean up the county. On average 40 tonnes of litter is removed every week at a cost of over £2.1 million per year.
Litter is also a blight on the landscape, takes years to degrade, and can cause harm to wildlife.
Residents with any information on littering are being asked to contact Carmarthenshire Direct on 01267 234567 so that problem areas can be identified and targeted by patrols.
Mr Hughes added: “By working together we can make Carmarthenshire a cleaner, greener and safer place to live and work for everyone.”
