Llanelli photographer wins business support

A Llanelli-based celebrity portrait photographer is hoping to realise one of his career ambitions this year, thanks to the support of the South Wales Local Investment Fund.
Terry Morris, who has photographed the likes of Sir Anthony Hopkins, Dame Shirley Bassey and Sir Tom Jones, is in talks with Tatler magazine about a high profile commission which will see him linking up with one of the UK’s most successful women’s sporting teams.
Details of the shoot are being kept under wraps, but Terry says he would never have been able to pitch for such work if LIF, administered locally by Carmarthenshire County Council, hadn’t financially backed him to upgrade his equipment.
“There is no way I would even be considered for this kind of work if my gear wasn’t up to the job. Thanks to the Local Investment Fund, I have been able to upgrade my kit so that I can produce quality images far superior to that of my older equipment.
“It means that I can compete at the highest level, and if this commission comes off it will be another of my careers ambitions achieved.”
Terry is also using his equipment to the benefit of local businesses, and families, working out of his new studio at Llanelli Gate in Dafen.
“I am now able to offer better quality images to companies who use them to market their business. My images can be blown up bill-board size and still look good, and that is the kind of quality that today’s businesses demand.”
The South Wales Local Investment Fund is a £19.3 million scheme which received £8.9million of European Convergance funding.
It aims to increase the number of firms in the region, and offer better support to existing companies.
Grants of up to £5,000 are being offered as part of the project, with equipment, premises improvement, one-off marketing costs, website development and software all eligible.
Over the next six years, 1,000 jobs are expected to be created, 1,400 companies supported and 400 new enterprises set up.
Carmarthenshire leads the project in partnership with neighbouring authorities in Swansea, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, and Neath Port Talbot, along with the West Wales Chamber of Commerce.
Each application to the fund is assessed on its potential value to the local economy.
Carmarthenshire’s executive board member for regeneration, Cllr Clive Scourfield, said: “It’s great that small businesses, such as that run by Terry, can get financial support so that their business can grow. Although Terry has some very exciting projects ahead, he balances his high-profile celebrity work with servicing local business needs, and I am glad that we have been able to help.”
