Carmarthenshire scam warning
Carmarthenshire Trading Standards Service is warning people to beware of a subscriptions scam that is doing the rounds.
The scam involves people cold calling householders telling them that their satellite TV/Broadband pay-per-view subscription is due for renewal and offering them deals such as a percentage discount.
The person phoning up goes through a description of the offer and then asks for personal including banking details. The customers later find that money has been taken from their account.
Executive board member for housing and public protection Cllr Hugh Evans said: “This scam has even targeted people who do not have satellite subscriptions to renew. People should not give out personal details, particularly financial information such as bank card details, to people that they do not know who have cold called them.”
If consumers need advice they should contact Carmarthenshire Direct on 01267 234567.
