Carmarthenshire schools go bananas!

Carmarthenshire Catering Service is continuing its commitment to supporting Fairtrade by introducing Fairtrade bananas in all schools and social care establishments across the county.
The service has worked closely with Carmarthenshire County Council’s fruit and vegetable supplier, Jones and Davies (Fruit) Ltd, based in Llandysul, to source Fairtrade produce wherever possible.
And the catering team is delighted that Robert Williams, director of Jones and Davies, has been able to source the bananas for the same price as the normal bananas.
Executive Board Member Cllr Pam Palmer, the county’s sustainability champion, said: “Usually Fairtrade branded items come with an increased cost, so we are delighted that our suppliers have been able to source these at no extra cost to the authority.
“We are now serving Fairtrade bananas in all our schools and social care establishments including residential homes and day centres.
“We are very grateful to Jones and Davies and are very proud to continue our support for Fairtrade.”
