Boxing boost for Carmarthenshire pupils

School-based Youth Workers are encouraging pupils to improve their fitness and deal with aggression by involving them in boxing sessions.
Pupils from Glan Y Môr and Coedcae School have reaped the benefits of boxing sessions where they’ve learnt to handle stress in a more constructive, self promoting fashion.
The young people have been coached by Kevin Evans at Kev’s Gym, Carmarthen; workshops at the Gym have included developing individuals’ self esteem and fitness levels.
Huw Thomas, Senior Youth Worker for the Llanelli area said:
“Boxing has had a very positive impact amid the young people and we’re beginning to see a difference in their attitudes.
“The sessions aim to promote a level of discipline, fitness, concentration and respect.
“By participating in boxing it will help the young people get rid of any unwanted aggression, and give them something positive to aim for.
“By motivating young people to spend their spare time in the gym, rather than on the streets, we'll be using sports to change people's lives for the better.”
