People of all cultures have a place in their homes to keep and display their most precious belongings.
A Welsh Dresser is like a personal museum, a place to display old and new, side by side. Things are added and changed and others stay the same through the generations. Each dresser tells the story of its owners.
As part of an exhibition hosted by Arts Council of Wales in Y Lle Celf at this year’s National Eisteddfod in Llanelli, Oriel Myrddin Gallery is ‘curating’ an especially built dresser for the opening day on Saturday 2 August 2014.

Through the week, the Arts Council of Wales hope to create a dresser that reflects the people of Sir Gâr of yesterday and today.
Each day will reveal a different decorated dresser telling a unique story.
Oriel Myrddin’s dresser represents the artists and makers of Carmarthenshire who were invited to loan us an object either from their own Welsh dresser or from an imaginary 21st C Welsh dresser.
We are delighted with the curious and unusual contributions we have received!

The dresser seems to be a place for things that are precious, things that can’t quite find a home and things that we need to remember – whether that is the gas bill or an image of our absent relatives. It is also a place of the imagination – a place to make our identities manifest and to explore the miscellanea of our lives.
