Seven fined for dog fouling offences in Llanelli area
Seven people have been fined for dog fouling offences in the Llanelli area during the last month.
Council environmental enforcement officers have issued a total of seven fixed penalty notices for £75 during the month of September.
If the fines are not paid, then the offenders could be prosecuted in court and fined even more – up to £1,000.
Three of the offences occurred along the Millennium Coastal Path, one at North Dock and two in Burry Port.
The other four offences were at Sandy Water Park; Brynhyfryd, Llanelli; Corporation Avenue, Llanelli; and Cwmgwili.
The fine issued in Corporation Avenue was thanks to a report from a member of the public. The incident in Cwmgwili was also down to a statement from a witness and photographs.
Residents are now being reminded that if they see anyone allowing their dog to foul in a public place and not cleaning it up, they can report it to the council so that action can be taken.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “Dog fouling is a major concern for the public and a top priority for the council.
“It can be very difficult to catch people as you have to be in the right place at the right time; this is where the public can help, as they can be our eyes and ears.
“The majority of dog owners are responsible but there are some who are not and we will not hesitate to fine them.”
