Llanelli skip firm fined
A Llanelli skip firm has been prosecuted for placing skips on the public highway without permission.
Sospan Skips Limited pleaded guilty by post to two offences contrary to section 139 of the Highways Act 1980 at Carmarthen Magistrates Court.
The prosecution was brought by Carmarthenshire County Council.
The court heard that skips had been placed on the highway at the rear of Glenalla Road in Llanelli and at Ger-y-Castell in KIdwelly in two separate incidents without the relevant permissions from the council.
The company, which is based at Caemawr Farm, Furnace, was fined £350 and ordered to pay full prosecution costs of £300.50 for the first offence. Sospan Skips was fined a further £350 and £227.58 costs for the second offence.
Chair of the council’s Environment Scrutiny Committee Cllr Jim Jones said “Carmarthenshire County Council is determined to tackle the problem of unlicensed skips. This is important both to ensure safety on the highway and to reduce the risk that waste from those skips will be illegally dumped.”
A permit from the council is needed to place a skip on the highway.
