Disability programme a success in Carmarthenshire

Carmarthenshire County Council has come out top of all Welsh local authorities in a league table which demonstrates how quickly disability adaptations are delivered in the home.
The Housing and Property Services departments work together to deliver such works, and in the latest performance data released by the National Data Unit, Carmarthenshire ranks number one on the table for the average number of calendar days taken to deliver low cost adaptations in private dwellings where the Disabled Facilities Grant is not used.
The results show the level of commitment the council shows towards people who require adapted premises in order to live independently at home.
Making such adaptations not only benefits the homeowner or tenant, but also reduces the impact on the Housing Choice Register, as it means that people are less likely to need to move to more suitable housing.
Head of Housing, Robin Staines, said: “We are delighted that our hard work in this area has resulted in Carmarthenshire coming out top on the league table which shows how well Welsh local authorities are performing in several different areas.
“We realise the importance of having living accommodation that is suited to the needs of the household, and always strive to work with our colleagues in Property Services - and Social Care – to ensure the needs of the household are met in as short a time as possible.”
Head of Property Services, Phil Lumley, added: “Working with colleagues in the Housing department, we ensure that any requested disability adaptations work are prioritised and carried out as quickly as possible and with the minimum amount of disruption. It is pleasing to see our efforts recognised in this way.”
