Carmarthen Town 2 Prestatyn Town 1
Tomi Morgan was a very pleased manager last Saturday as Carmarthen Town gained revenge for a 6-1 defeat earlier in the season by Prestatyn Town.
“We showed today what we are capable of doing against a side pushing for a top six place. I feel that we were comfortably the better side and were most unfortunate not to have scored more goals.”
With Town four points adrift at the bottom of the table it was a vital game for the EH Factors and Clothing sponsored side and it what was one of the better performances of the season so far that showed their true capabilities.
It was influential mid filed player Geraint Passmore who opened the scoring for the home side in the 12th minute when his strong shot was deflected past Dave Roberts in the Prestatyn goal and into the back of the net. Roberts was quickly back in action within a few minutes as he dived to his left to save from Jack Christopher.
Town were producing football of a high standard with both full backs, Lewis Jones and Cledan Davies augmenting the attack at every opportunity. With Passmore ,Corey Thomas and Kieran Howard gaining the upper hand in midfield Town were able to attack at every opportunity and put the visitors under a great deal of pressure.
With Nick Harrhy causing all kinds of problems down the left hand side Town kept the visitors pegged in their own half. Captain Tim hicks felt he was denied a penalty as he was brought down in the box while centre back Lee Bevan had a header cleared off the line after a strong effort from a corner. Town would have been disappointed to have ended the half with only a one goal advantage.
The second half followed a similar patter with Town taking the game to Prestatyn. Passmore was most unfortunate not to get his second goal of the game when his excellent left footed effort came back off the post.
Gradually the visitors did gain more possession of the ball with player manager Neil Gibson to the fore but did not trouble Michael Lewis in the home goal as Richard Hughes snuffed out most of the danger.
Town deservedly gained their second goal in the 79th minute when Jack Christopher popped up at the right place at the right time to force the ball past Roberts.
As you would expect from the visitors they now played their best football of the game and were rewarded for their enterprise in the 86th minute when second half substitute Karl Murray shot past Lewis.
This left a few uncomfortable period for the home side but they coolly played their way through the final few minutes to gain a deserved win.

Port Talbot 2 Carmarthen Town 0
A weakened Carmarthen squad failed to cause many significant problems this evening at The Gen Quip Stadium to a Port Talbot side this that were determined to make amends for their recent defeat at Richmond Park.
Port Talbot started the match on the offensive attacking along their right flank but Carmarthen’s defence stood up to the early pressure.
Gradually Carmarthen started to string passes together with Nick Harrhy, Steffan Williams and Geraint Passmore and on 15minutes, a Lee Bevan surge through the centre delivered a pass to Jack Christopher who shot on target but was saved by Port Talbot keeper Fogler.
10 minutes later, Carmarthen were continuing to look for their first goal with Corey Thomas and Geraint Passmore linking well in mid-field. Lee Bevan surged forward again during this spell of Carmarthen pressure but weak finishing in the final third seemed to let the team down.
Unfortunately for Tim Hicks, at 32 minutes he was judged to have tripped Port Talbot’s Martin Rose in the six yard box. Rose’s stylish conversion from the spot surely settled any concerns that Port Talbot manager Jones might have had before kick-off.
Half-time: Port Talbot 1 – 0 Carmarthen Town
Carmarthen started the second in a positive way with Palmer, Harrhy and Passmore working hard to get their team back into the match
Steffan Williams was replaced at 55 minutes by Richard Hughes as Carmarthen would not give in to a difficult Port Talbot performance.
Port Talbot replaced Chris Hartland with Matthew Thompson. Carmarthen were caught slightly off guard when clever passing by Port Talbot found Martin Rose clear to double Port Talbot’s lead.
Carmarthen would still not give up and continued to press forward with a spell of half chances that were blocked by the determined Port Talbot defence
Town manager Tomi Morgan replaced Nick Harrhy who had taken a knock earlier on in the game with Rhys Dalling but it was Port Talbot that caused the problems late on with Martin Rose just failing to get his hat-trick thanks to Mike Lewis’s foot.
