Another boost for Llanelli Waterfront

Llanelli Waterfront is becoming a jewel studded crown of attractions on the edge of town.
Yet another jaw droppingly beautiful jigsaw piece has been dropped into place in the continuing development of Llanelli’s North Dock.
A Public plaza has been created that will be the focus for musicians, open air theatre and a variety of public performances knitting together the leisure and office development already created.
The public realm scheme has been created by using a variety of varying colours of marble, in an assortment of sweeps and curves in a sensitively planted garden area.
County executive board member for regeneration and leisure Cllr Clive Scourfield said: “This run down area of Llanelli has been completely transformed by the Joint Venture group. This magnificent addition to an evolving Waterside enhancement programme will help encourage investment and development in the Llanelli”
The scheme has been funded by the Llanelli Waterside Joint Venture, which has already invested significant sums in the regeneration of the Llanelli coast. The Joint Venture is a partnership between Carmarthenshire County Council and the Welsh Government originally formed in 1990 between Llanelli Borough Council and Welsh Development Agency.
The primary objective of the partnership is to drive forward the regeneration of the coastal environments of Llanelli and Burry Port. This has been achieved through investment in land reclamation and infrastructure provisions which, in turn provides the foundations for investment and development.
Business Minister Edwina Hart said the investment by the partnership was having a significant impact on the area, opening up new economic development opportunities for both business and tourism.
"This latest investment in infrastructure is enhancing North Dock and creating an attractive centre for business and leisure that complements work underway in Llanelli town centre."
The plaza comprises of a sitting area around the perimeter and a large open space in the centre designed for public community events.
The Plaza works complements previous improvements undertaken at Carmarthenshire Dock, including the creation of offices and a top class restaurant called the Sosban which has been created around the dock’s former water tower.
The Plaza will also support the next enhancement at the Dock which is proposed to be in the form of a Boulevard to the North of the Dock basin, which is planned to link the dock to the Millennium Coastal Park.
