Carmarthen Wanderers 4 Bancffosfelen 3
I am grateful to Phil Grice for the following match report -
Carmarthen Wanderers dominated the first half of this Carmarthenshire third division league match, going 3-0 up in the space of 20 minutes.
But then in the second half Bancffosfelen came back strongly and Wanderers can thank their midfield and defence of steel for gaining them all three points in a game of non-stop action and excitement from start to finish.
Goal of the day came along after 10 ninutes when Matt Dagnal cooly chested down a high cross ball, slipped past a defender and wallop – the goalkeeper never saw it until he was picking it up from the back of the net.
Then along came the irrepressible Craig Evans with two clean goals to take the home side three up into the second half.
Banffosfelen started well in the second half with an early goal, only to have Rob Brockhoven return the honour for Wanderers with a fine strike into the top of the net. This galvanised Banc into a long protracted and determined attack on the Wanderers goal.
First came a well taken penalty - which had left most on the players and the crowd bemused as to the reason for it - followed by two further quick goals from Banc, who at 4-3 looked well on the way to gaining a point, if not all three.
The Wanderers defence were, however, having none of it and ensured that their team kept all three points.
Midfield general Neil MacPherson took guard of the centre, Philly Rogers ensured that no forward got past him and together with veteran Stuart Clarke, recovering from an earlier injury, patrolled the back line against the waves of attack from the Banc forwards, with goalie Ashley Davies playing another blinder.
This was a brilliant display of defensive football from the Wanderers and Club Captain and Manager Garry Dappo will be delighted with his team's effort this week which sees them move well into the top half of the Carmarthenshire League.
