Boost for budding Spielbergs in Carmarthenshire
Spielberg-styled film makers of the future could be spawned by an ambitious new film project in Carmarthenshire.
The County Council and It’s My Shout Productions have teamed up to deliver over spring and summer at Laugharne, St Clears, Whitland; Pencader/Llanfihangel-ar-arth/Llanllwni and Brynamman/Llandovery.
The project will give groups and individuals an opportunity to learn new skills in film production and take part in the production of a short film of their very own. All ages are welcome.
Funded by the Arts Council of Wales, the project will launch this Spring throughout the county and will engage local talent and enthusiasm to work on the production of three films from start to finish.
Guided by industry professionals, everyone involved will have the opportunity to develop their skills in a variety of creative areas and stages of production, including storytelling and scriptwriting, acting, cinematography, sound capture, production design, costume and make-up and post-production. The films will then be promoted and screened at local Premiere events throughout the community.
To officially launch the project there will be three launch-events taking place, one in each of the localities and everyone is welcome to come along find out more and get involved!
Monday 30th April 2012 – 7pm Dylan Thomas Boathouse, Laugharne.
Thursday 10th May 2012 – 7pm Llanllwni Church Hall.
Monday 14th May 2012 – 7pm Rhys Pritchard Memorial Hall, Llandovery.
Now in its 10th year, It’s My Shout is well-known for its national summer film and television training scheme. The scheme works directly with BBC Cymru Wales to provide opportunities for new talent throughout Wales to showcase their abilities on the production of at least six short dramas each year, for broadcast on BBC Two, Wales.
Working directly with industry partners and broadcasters throughout the country, its My Shout provides quality training and exciting creative experiences to individuals hoping to break into the media industry. Over the past ten years, its productions have been broadcast on ITV Wales, S4/C as well as BBC Cymru|Wales, and many have gone on to win BAFTA Cymru awards and nominations.
Since it was established in 2003, the scheme has successfully nurtured the talent and launched the careers of many actors, directors, writers and production crew including Lawrence Olivier Award Winning Aneurin Barnard, (currently promoting his Swansea based feature film ‘Hunky Dory’ where he takes the lead alongside Minnie Driver). Aneurin says; “The It’s My Shout training scheme gives you invaluable experience and knowledge of how a film set really works and gives you the sort of experience you wouldn’t be able to get elsewhere”.
