BOBB scheme appeal in Carmarthenshire

Licensees in Carmarthenshire are being encouraged to join their local BOBB scheme.
The Behave or Be Banned (or BOBB) scheme sees police and licensees working together to reduce violence and disorder in pubs and clubs in the county.
Problem customers are banned not just from the one pub but all those in the area that have signed up.
It also tackles underage drinking and the use and supply of drugs.
The scheme was initially set up in the three main towns of Carmarthen, Llanelli and Ammanford but has now been rolled out to other areas including Llandeilo, Llandovery, Cross Hands, Newcastle Emlyn, Pencader, Whitland and St Clears.
The scheme has been a great success and in total, 172 licensed premises across Carmarthenshire have signed up and 114 people are currently banned.
The Community Safety Partnership (CSP) is working hard to tackle violent and alcohol-related crime and is now calling on more licensees to get involved.
Chair of the CSP’s Violent and Alcohol-Related Crime Action Group Philip Davies said: “The BOBB scheme sends out a strong message to the public that violent behaviour and alcohol-related crime will not be tolerated in Carmarthenshire.
“We want to make sure that premises are properly run and that everyone can enjoy themselves safely and responsibly.”
The CSP includes the police and the council as well as a number of other agencies working together to make the county a safer place.
Partnerships Inspector Eric Evans said: “The BOBB scheme is one of a number of initiatives being carried out in Carmarthenshire to tackle violent and alcohol-related crime and is already proving to be very effective.”

• Ammanford - 28 premises have joined the scheme, 12 persons banned
• Llanelli town – 9 premises have joined the scheme, 39 persons banned
• Llanelli rural - 26 premises have joined the scheme, 3 persons banned
• Cross Hands – 19 premises have joined the scheme, 2 persons banned
• Llandeilo - 11 premises have joined the scheme, 2 persons banned
• Llandovery – 17 premises have joined the scheme, 4 persons banned
• Newcastle Emlyn/Pencader - 20 premises have joined the scheme, 18 persons banned
• Whitland/St Clears - 10 premises have joined the scheme and 5 persons banned

Former Gower MP Gareth Wardell was the guest speaker at the weekly meeting of Llanelli Rotary Club held at the Stradey Park Hotel. 'Class of 1980' from Burry Port enjoy reunion

There was a big class reunion held in Burry Port at the weekend. Members of the Class of 1980 from Porth Tywyn (Burry Port junior) School got together at The Coasting Pilot pub. The reunion was organised by Christine Rees and same 22 members of the original class of 28 turn up to discuss their old schooldays. One ‘Class of 1980’ member was Burry Port businessman Owain Davies. He said: “We all have very happy memories of our time in school. We had a fantastic teacher in Mr Heddwyn Jones, who now lives in Four Roads. “We were very fortunate to have the same teacher for three years and we were a very happy class. Mr Jones was an inspiring teacher and we all got on every well and we are all still good friends. “Heather Thomas (now Heather Osmond) made it from Surrey, but she was trumped by Gail Morris, who flew in from Ohio in the United States for the reunion. “It was a fantastic evening at the Coasting Pilot with good food, good wine and good company. Lauryn Davey is making her mark in athletics - but needs sponsors

Ammanford-based Lauryn Davey is making a major mark in the world of Welsh athletics. At just 16, she is the best all-round athlete of her age in Wales. She's chalking up Welsh championship victories and has been honoured by her club, the Carmarthen Harriers. Lauryn's been earmarked as a future international star, but knows the road to the big championships is difficult, demanding and expensive. Ammanford businessman and well-known comic entertainer Phil Evans has launched a campaign to get cash backers for Lauryn's athletics career. "Everyone in the area is hugely proud of her achievements in athletics to date," said Phil. "But we also want to see her go on and do bigger and better things.
