New bus station opens for Llanelli

The new bus interchange that will serve the £25million Eastgate development opens next week a month ahead of schedule.
In the last week Britannia Construction have been putting the finishing touches to the terminus.
This has included trials with First Cymru who have been running a bus in and out of the new bus interchange that feeds on to Swansea Castle roundabout.
County executive board member for transport services Cllr Philip Hughes said everyone who had seen the progress made on the bus station had been impressed with the high quality of workmanship and finish.
“When the shuttering comes away in the next week and normal service buses are using the terminus the public will see that Eastgate is well on the way to being delivered before the end of next year.”
The old bus station on the opposite side of the development behind Iceland will be closed and become a building site as the new smart, spacious and comfortable interchange opens to serve the new development.
In the trials, buses circumnavigating the roundabout at the top of Park Place surprised some road users resulting in the call for drivers to be alerted to this new traffic arrangement and obey the Highway Code by giving way to traffic, especially buses, from the right entering the roundabout.
Cllr Hughes said: “It is something that people will get used to but because they have not seen it before the manoeuvre will come a surprise to some and we ask drivers to exercise care there.”
The second phase includes a new Odeon multiplex cinema, a 53-bed hotel, 2,000sqm of office space, shops, pubs restaurants and a new 240-space car park.
It all adds up to £25million of investment with the potential of more than 100 new jobs and even more through the construction and development stage over the next 12 months.
