Bus tour plan for Eastgate site

There's a chance to see Llanelli’s dramatic £60-million transformation from the top of a double-decker open topped bus on Tuesday. (Aug 16)
Members of the public will be allowed on a first come first served basis to ride the open topped bus about the town, courtesy of Britannia Construction, which will be give them a wonderful vantage point to see progress about the centre.
The first phase of massive transformation of Eastgate opens officially a month ahead of schedule on Tuesday.
It is the new bus station offering a smart, spacious and comfortable transport interchange to the new development.
The bus station will play a key role allowing visitors to access the new development that will be delivered by the end of 2012.
When finished, Eastgate will be transformed into a stunning new quarter of the town. It will boast a multiplex Odean cinema; a hotel, 2,000sqm of office space, shops, pubs restaurants and a refurbished 240 space car park.
The bus station has adequate bays to take service and lay over touring buses and has improved road access, lighting and bus shelters that will be right at the heart of the new development.
Britannia Construction project manager David Files said: “We are sure the quality of the first phase will create a good impression and whet the appetite for what is to come.”
County executive board member for transport services Cllr Philip Hughes said: “The bus station will play such an important part in delivering people directly into a new busy centre for Llanelli.
“Britannia will with the closure of the old bus station in a week’s time make headway into the second important phase of this magnificent development that bodes so well for Llanelli’s economic future.”
