Weather problems prompt calls surge
Staff at Carmarthenshire Direct have been inundated with calls today from people reporting weather-related incidents.
The heavy rain and winds have caused some problems across the county, including a report of a tree which had fallen in the Pendine area.
By 9.15am staff had already taken over 110 calls, answering each one within an average of 40 seconds.
Customer Care executive board member Cllr Kevin Madge said: “We are dealing with an unusually high volume of calls due to weather related incidents, and although staff are coping extremely well, we would ask people to be patient if they can’t get through to us immediately.”
People are also being urged to be aware of the current driving conditions. With high winds and heavy rainfall, extreme caution should be exercised whilst driving due to many roads being subject to partial flooding.
With these conditions comes the increased risk of aquaplaning and possible loss of vehicle control.
Motorists are also urged to be mindful of pedestrians, and be courteous when driving through standing water.
Technical Services executive board member Cllr Philip Hughes said: “Please allow extra time for all journeys and give consideration as to whether the journey is necessary at all.”
