Search for sporting heroes in Carmarthenshire
If you know someone who should be recognised for their sporting talent then get nominating for Carmarthenshire County Council’s Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
The Council’s Sports Development Unit with Carmarthenshire Local Sports Council, is holding its annual Sports Personality Awards on Wednesday 26th January 2011 for the first time at the Lyric Theatre, Carmarthen.
Earlier this year Llanelli wonder hurdler David Greene was nominated Carmarthenshire’s Sports Personality of the year and he has had a brilliant year capped recently with Commonwealth Gold Medal.
This is your chance to nominate a sports personality for one of the following 11 categories: Sports personality of the year, young sportsman of the year; young sportswoman of the year; disabled sportsman of the year, disabled sportswoman of the year; sports coach of the year, sports volunteer of the year; young sports volunteer of the year, team of the year; young team of the year and The Ryan Jones memorial award for outstanding services to sport.
If you know of any athlete, coach or volunteer who should be recognised for their efforts then why not nominate them?
There is also a Hall of Fame category in its fifth year recognising a longstanding and outstanding contribution to the county’s sporting excellence.
County executive board member for leisure services Cllr Clive Scourfield said: “I never cease to be amazed at the quality of athletes produced by in Carmarthenshire. This year has truly been a golden year with David Greene going sweeping all opposition away.
“There are many deserving of recognition out there and I would urge all who think they know someone who might be worthy to get nominating as quickly as possible.”
Closing date for all nominations is November 26th.
