South Pembs Hospital Achieves Investors in Carers Bronze Award

South Pembs Hospital in Pembroke Dock has become the first hospital setting to achieve the Investors in Carers Bronze level award.
The Investors in Carers (IiC) scheme is designed to help health facilities such as GP practices and hospitals focus on and improve their carer awareness and enhance the help and support they give Carers.
A carer is someone, of any age, who provides unpaid support to family or friends who could not manage without this help. This could be caring for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems. Anyone can become a carer; in most cases becoming a carer is not out of choice, it just happens.
Peter Llewellyn, Hywel Dda University Health Board’s Assistant Director of Strategic Partnerships visited the hospital to present Tilly Morrissey with their award for demonstrating the processes put in place to effectively identify carers and support them through provision of appropriate information and signposting to further support.
Tilly Morrissey, Resource Centre Manager at South Pembs Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre, said: “Working towards the bronze level award has been a rewarding experience for all the staff at South Pembs. We took part as we wanted to be able to support Carers and increase staff awareness of the issues experienced by Carers. It is about help and support Carers to identify themselves so we can signpost them for further help and support.”
Peter sad: “I’d like to congratulate the whole team at South Pembs Hospital and Health and Social Care Resource Centre for becoming the first hospital setting to be awarded the bronze IiC award.
“Carers are the largest source of care and support in each area of the UK and it is in everyone’s interest that they are supported. We hope Carers visiting South Pembs Hospital with those they are caring for or as a patient themselves will greatly benefit from the support now available to them from Tilly and the team.”
