Top Welsh comedian Phil Evans heads east for St Valentine's Day
It promises to be a night of ‘passion and punch-lines’ when top Welsh comedian Phil Evans takes his friends into the east for Valentine’s Day.
Phil Evans (and Friends) will be performing their Love and Laughter show at the Savoy Theatre, Monmouth, on Saturday, February 14.
The evening follows a very successful Love and Laughter show at the Lyric Theatre, Carmarthen, held to mark St Dwynwen’s Day, the Welsh version of Valentine’s.
“The west of Wales has felt the ‘love’ of our show. Now it’s the turn of east Wales,” said Phil.
“They say ‘Love is all around’. Well, as comedians we are doing our best to make sure that really is the case in Wales.
“There will be romance in the air for our Love and Laughter show in Monmouth. It will be a real treat for St Valentine’s Day – an experience not to be missed.”
Following sell-out shows in Toronto, Edinburgh and Machynlleth Comedy Festival, Phil Evans has rounded up a group of the very best names in comedy for his ‘Friends’.
With stand-up, comedy characters and musical comedy greats, whatever your Facebook relationship status, there are guaranteed giggles on Valentine’s Night!
Appearing on stage with Phil (Gala Gomedi, S4C) will be Ignacio Lopez (Show Me The Funny, ITV), Paul James, with his cheeky engaging style and a hint of dark comedy and Karen Sherrard, someone you will instantly warm to once you collide with her engaging characters and sharp wit.
Phil added: “No expense has been spared for this one-off night of guaranteed laughter and mayhem, which will be jam-packed with more than 90 minutes of live comedy and variety. This is a show that you must not miss.”
Tickets £12. Doors open 7.30 pm. Show starts 8.00 pm
About Phil Evans:
Phil Evans is sometimes known as the 'Hugmeister of Wales' and the man who has put the ‘Cwtsh’ back into comedy.
He is a favourite warm-up comedian for TV shows on BBC, S4C and ITV. He has appeared on Sky TV’s The Welsh Show. He regularly performs overseas and recent trips have taken him to the USA, Canada and Norway.
Squeeze him for information on his favourite topic – the Welsh cwtsh (hug) – and he will explain why a cwtsh should always be spelt as ‘cwtsh’ and not ‘cwtch’.
Cheeky, but never crude or offensive, Phil produces a very Welsh brand of humour.
Phil Evans also has a weekly column (every Wednesday) in the South Wales Evening Post.

“Phil Evans is true showbiz royalty - not only the Clown Prince of Comedy, but also the King of the Cwtsh. As a comedian, no-one can touch Phil...which sounds a lot nicer than saying he's the subject of a number of restraining orders at present.
With over 20 years experience, Phil isn't so much a comic, but more like a force of nature. Warm, cheeky, and with an incredible gift for working an audience; the first time you see Phil Evans, you'll never forget him. The second time you see him...run!” Gary Slaymaker.
About Ignacio Lopez:
Ignacio Lopez is billed as 'Half Spanish, Half Welsh, All Funny.'
The 26-year-old lives in Swansea. Lopez was chosen from thousands of comedians to appear on ITV's ‘Show me the Funny’, hosted by Jason Manford.
He said: “Although I didn't do too well in the competition it’s really made me appreciate how much better comedy can be ‘live’. I wasn't my best on the TV show but part of that was how it was edited. The attraction of being a comedian is that you are the only person responsible for what you say on stage. You write and perform your own material and it’s up to you to deliver the goods.”
