Golf clubs in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire help charity of the year
Golf clubs across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire will be holding qualifying rounds throughout September with a grand final being held at the prestigious 100 year old Ashburnham Golf Club, Burry Port, on Friday 10 October 2014.
There will be 10 golf clubs participating in the qualifying rounds Ashburnham, Aberystwyth, Cardigan, Carmarthen, Glyn Abbey, Garnant Park, Glynhir, Milford Haven, Newport Links and Tenby.
Former Wales wing Shane Williams, pictured at the launch of the tournament at Garnant Park Golf Club, is pleased to be supporting the events.
He said: “Most people don’t know that hospital charities exist let alone the importance of the work they do. The NHS in Wales can only provide a limited amount of resources and this is where hospital charities come in. Hywel Dda Health Charities doesn’t replace NHS funding but uses donations received from patients, their families and local communities to improve services for the benefit of the thousands of people cared for each year in our local communities.”
Claire Rumble, Fundraising Officer for Hywel Dda Health Charities, added: “The three counties golf tournament is building up great interest and looks to be a very successful event. Players will have a great day with excellent prizes to be won.
“We are extremely grateful to the participating clubs for hosting qualifying rounds and helping us to raise vital funds for local healthcare.
“All proceeds from the tournament will benefit our ‘Charity of the Year’ which is due to be announced in September 2014. The ‘Charity of the Year’ will be chosen by university health board staff voting from a list of short-listed services which benefit patients across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.”
