Carmarthenshire competing to be named Council of the Year

Carmarthenshire County Council is one of 10 authorities across the UK competing to be named Council of the Year in service delivery.
The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) has shortlisted the council for the award, seen as the pinnacle of excellence in public services.
Carmarthenshire is the only Welsh council shortlisted, and competes against Edinburgh, Fife, the London Borough of Havering, North Ayrshire, Nottingham, Oxford, Peterborough, South Lanarkshire and Stockton on Tees for Council of the Year.
In addition, three of the council’s services are up for individual awards, including Best Service Teams for catering, and construction and building maintenance; and Best Health and Wellbeing Initiative for the transformation of adult social care services.
The award ceremony will be held in Nottingham in September when the results will be announced.
Leader of the council, Cllr Kevin Madge, said: “To be the only Welsh authority shortlisted for Council of the Year in these prestigious awards is testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, who – against increasing pressures – continue to deliver top quality services to local people.
“That so many service areas have been shortlisted for individual awards also demonstrates the breadth of services we provide and how staff are motivated to continually strive for excellence.
“I congratulate our teams on being recognised at this national level, and hope that we are succesful on the day.”
APSE is a not for profit local government organisation working with over 300 councils throughout the UK to promote excellence in frontline services.
Its Chief Executive Paul O'Brien said: “Tough times demand innovative and entrepreneurial responses to protect public service delivery and ensure that councils can share best practice amongst each other. These service awards reward those councils, and their frontline service teams, who have gone above and beyond good service to deliver excellence in local public services.”
