Help for Carmarthenshire schools
Schools in Carmarthenshire are being helped to stay open tomorrow despite severe weather warnings across the county.
The county council’s Building Services Division is making staff available from early in the morning to ensure there is a clear access to schools.
Some 14 gangs have been set up to cover the whole county, each has been given a secondary school to work on initially so that they can open for pupils who are taking exams.
The crews will then move onto primary schools and hope to get around as many as possible, if not all, before 9am so that schools can open as usual.
The plans have been made following a meeting of the council’s Corporate Management Team today, as keeping schools open is a high priority.
The council is making resources available to help do this, in advance of the severe weather conditions forecast for later today and tomorrow morning.
All headteachers have been advised of the arrangements and have been given contact details for operatives in their areas.
Education executive board member Cllr Gwynne Wooldridge said: “Priority will be given in the first instance to keeping secondary schools accessible and safe, as external examinations are underway across the county.
“Staff will then move on to primary schools to help ensure safe access to them.
“Everyone is working together to do as much as we can to keep all services, including our schools, operating as normal.”
