Help for Carmarthenshire householders

Plans are already being put in place to help householders in Carmarthenshire avoid being ripped off when the big freeze ends.
The county council’s public protection division is setting up a small team of officers to answer queries from members of the public who need to have repairs carried out to their homes.
Head of public protection Philip Davies said: “Our team will be able to offer advice to people who are unhappy about the quotes they have been given to carry out essential repairs to their homes following the snow and ice. We would advise them to use one of our Registered Traders.”
Executive board member for housing and public protection Cllr Hugh Evans said: “We are keen to ensure that householders are not taken advantage of and the best way to organise repairs is by contacting one of our Registered Traders.”
Members of the Registered Traders’ Scheme agree to abide by the scheme’s code of practice and to trade fairly. Most areas of the building trade are covered as well as the newer list of Gardeners and Handypersons.
A list of current members can be found on www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk or by contacting 01267 234567.
