Grit clearance in Carmarthenshire

Crews are clearing grit from town centres, streets and pavements across Carmarthenshire now that the bad weather conditions are clearing.
The grit is being collected and will be stored for re-use when needed in the future.
It had been used to help keep side roads, footways and town centre areas safe during the heavy snowfall recently.
Due to a shortage of salt, with limited supplies being available for main roads, the grit was the most appropriate material to use in these areas.
Environment executive board member Cllr Haydn Jones said: “We are now collecting all excess grit from those areas where it was spread previously to help people get out and about.
“We will be storing it and recycling it for any future adverse weather conditions when it may be needed.
“This is extremely good practice, as not only will it clear all pavements, side roads and town centres, it will continue to provide a valuable resource for future use.”
