Boost for rural Carmarthenshire

Rural businesses in Carmarthenshire are to benefit from a new £300,000 grant fund being launched by Carmarthenshire County Council.
The Village Improvement Grant will breathe new life in to town and village centres by providing funding to enable micro enterprises to improve property frontages.
A pot of cash will be available for eligible businesses, funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, and the Welsh Assembly Government’s Rural Development Plan, supported by Carmarthenshire County Council.
Physical Regeneration Project Manager Vivienne Davies said: “The fund is open to sole traders, partnerships, private companies and community businesses that are based, or wish to be based, in Carmarthenshire’s rural villages and towns.
“Priority will be given to applications that work in partnership with neighbouring properties to develop envelope schemes in order that the scheme has a bigger environmental impact.
“Applicants demonstrating a need for support can secure up to 50 per cent of the eligible project cost, up to a maximum grant of £15,000.”
The funding is set to provide a major boost to the county’s rural economy and will help to strengthen the identity of local communities.
It is hoped the funding will add to the quality of life for local residents and add to the attractiveness of the villages in terms of business and tourism.
Executive Board member for regeneration, Cllr Clive Scourfield, said: “This is a tremendous opportunity for businesses in rural Carmarthenshire to get together to secure capital funding to improve the appearance of commercial areas within of our county’s rural towns and villages.
“This pot of funding provides some exciting opportunities for rural parts of Carmarthenshire, and should help to brighten up retail and business premises for the good of everyone.
“I hope we receive many grant applications, and I look forward to seeing these village improvements in the near future.”
