Beer Academy to hold its first Welsh Beer Festival

The Beer Academy will hold its first Welsh Beer Festival in Caerphilly in August.
The Celt Beer Academy Festival is being held at Caerphilly RFC on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th August. This will not only offer the opportunity to sample a wide range of locally produced beers but also to feature live folk music, beer flavour training from a Beer Academy Sommelier and a Beer and Cheese Masterclass. The highlight of the weekend will be the opening of the new Celt Beer Experience brewery
Festival organiser and Beer Academy Sommelier Tom Newman said: “The Welsh beer scene is flourishing and there is enormous public interest in discovering more about locally brewed beers. This Festival will be a chance not only to discover new beer gems but also to find out more about beer. But the great thing about beer is that it’s not stuffy. You can learn and have fun at the same time. What better way to get to grips with the subject than to share a few beers with friends , listen to some great music and sample some delicious local foods?".
Tickets cost £10 including beer tokens and can be booked at www.celticbeers.co.uk
Tom Newman – Beer Academy Sommelier.
After starting his employed life with Butcombe Brewery as a cask washer and general worker some 20 years ago, Tom Newman left and set upon his new career as a water engineer. 10 years later after achieving a post graduate and chartership in water engineering, Tom decided take a U-turn by returning to his passion and past-time of brewing. In 2003, after persuading his Welsh father to allow him to construct a brewery in his garage the business set off. Now, nearly a decade on, after two expansions Tom is back in his family land of Caerphilly receiving a number of National and International awards for his flavoursome high-end organic beers with his Brewery ‘The Celt Experience’. Now as a newly qualified Beer Academy Sommelier (first in Wales!), Tom intends to travel both locally to his Welsh accounts and globally to his importers to encourage the fusion of a fantastic range of beers with flavoursome food dishes.
