Top food award for The Cricketers

The Flagship Evan-Evans brewery pub, The Cricketers in Cardiff, has won a top food award.
The Cricketers has been judged the Best Food Pub in Wales and is now in the running for the UK title.
The award is given by the pub industry’s leading magazine and website, The Publican’s Morning Advertiser.
“It’s a major ‘Howzat!’ moment for one of the newest pubs in Cardiff,” said owner Simon Buckley.
“The pub is in a great location in Cathedral Road and is proving hugely popular with customers old and new.
“We have strived to put the emphasis on quality in everything we do – from the food, to the service and the award-winning real ales we offer from our renowned Evan-Evans brewery in Llandeilo.
“Excellence is the watchword at The Cricketers and the nomination for this national award reflects great credit on the team working under manager Michelle Francis.”
The Cricketers beat off the challenge of numerous pubs across Wales to claim the Welsh title.
The Publican’s Morning Advertiser awards are recognised as the ‘Oscars’ of the pub world.

Cricketers manager Michelle Francis (pictured above) said: “I am thrilled that we have been judged the Best Food Pub in Wales. Now, we’d like to win the national title as well so that The Cricketers helps to put Cardiff on the UK pub food map.”
Independent judges visited all the competing pubs to assess them, with The Cricketers coming out on top.
The Publican’s Morning Advertiser Editor Paul Charity said: “The award recognises the pub with the best traditional pub food offering.
“The judges looked for evidence of the revenue generated by food sales and how this had been increased in the past 12 months.
“The Cricketers has a fantastic offer for its customers and is a worthy winner.”
The Cricketers will go forward to the Great British Pub Awards final, held at the Hilton Hotel in London’s Park Lane on September 8 and hosted by TV and radio personality Rory Bremner.
It will go head to head with seven other regional winners for the UK title ‘Best Food Pub 2011’ and will also have the opportunity to compete for the overall title of ‘Great British Pub of the Year.’
