Cor Meibion Llanelli's warm welcome at chapel

Christmas Concert at Capel Smyrna, Llangain, near Carmarthen, featuring Cor Meibion Llanelli and soloists Gwawr Edwards (soprano) and Dafydd Edwards (tenor).
It might have been ‘below zero’ outside, but the warmth of the welcome at Capel Smyrna in Llangain ensured that the packed house could bask in a very heartening Christmas glow.
Award-winning Cor Meibion Llanelli braved the icy roads to travel to Llangain for a Christmas concert hosted by Merril Parry.
“On the journey down, the cold was such that I feared chattering teeth would be the biggest problem for the choir,” said Cor Meibion Llanelli musical director Eifion Thomas.
“But we need not have worried because the warmth of the welcome at Capel Smyrna gave all of the singers an inner glow.
“Gwawr Edwards and Dafydd Edwards were two excellent soloists for the evening and I think Cor Meibion Llanelli complemented them perfectly.”
The Cor Meibion Llanelli programme included the Anthem theme from the musical Chess, Yfory and the ever-popular Myfanwy, which featured choir tenor Teifryn Rees as soloist.
Gwawr Edwards joined the choir for La Vergine Degli Angeli) from Verdi’s La Forza del Destino (Force of Destiny)
Eifion Thomas added his own composition to the mix with Canwn Haleliwia and two choir favourites Hwyrol Weddi and Y Tangnefeddwyr were hugely popular with the chapel audience.
There was a Christmas theme with Y Brenin Bach (a Welsh version of a carol from the Basque country) and A Lovely Christmas Feeling, which featured a solo by the choir’s Ken Collins.
The music to A Lovely Christmas Feeling was composed by Peter Canwell, a composer of many school musical plays.
Peter lives in Stockton-on-Tees, and is a great friend of the choir
The choir’s programme concluded with A-rockin’ All Night (featuring choir soloist Byron Thomas), You’ll Never Walk Alone, Mary’s Boy Child, A-men, Stille Nacht and Adeste Fideles.
