Letter to South Wales Guardian

Letter sent by Kevin Richards, executive director of the Healing The Wounds charity, to the South Wales Guardian today -
Your letters page last week (December 1) carried an excellent thank-you letter from Melanie Coombes, who has worked very hard in raising cash for the Healing The Wounds (Golden Grove) appeal.
It does, however, require a clarification.
While Melanie and her fundraisers are finishing their charitable endeavours for Healing The Wounds to concentrate on other worthy charities, the work of the Healing The Wounds charity continues at an ever-increasing pace.
A casual glance at Melanie’s letter could mistakenly leave readers with the impression that our appeal is coming to an end. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The work of the Healing The Wounds charity is gathering pace at a rate of knots. In fact, more than £120,000 has been raised towards our initial target of £200,000.
Healing the Wounds has been launched for the purpose of raising the funds needed to enable the purchase of a suitable facility within Wales for the treatment of our Armed Forces Personnel, Veterans and their families, who are suffering from stress related illnesses such as PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and to provide a convalescent home to allow them to heal and recover from the traumas of conflict.
Our initial wish-list has the Golden Grove Mansion as the base for a convalescent home and rehabilitation and training centre. We have an over-riding commitment to raising money for Welsh servicemen and servicewomen – and a key target to make sure services are provided for them within Wales. This is in contrast for other fund-raising activities for armed forces which sees money raised in Wales being spent elsewhere in the UK.
The fund-raising efforts of South Wales Guardian readers have been magnificent during the first year of our charity’s operation. We look forward to their continued support and will strive to keep Guardian readers informed of all the latest news from Healing The Wounds.
Anyone wish to donate they can do so at any Barclays Bank, sorting code 20 84 41, account number 90516929.
Kevin Richards, Executive Director of Healing The Wounds.
