£1,300 grant for Bwlch motorbiking project
Morfa Youth Forum has received a £1,300 grant from GwirVol to develop the Bwlch motorbiking project.
GwirVol is an initiative made up of a partnership from the voluntary, community, public and private sectors. CAVS Volunteer Centre has put together a panel of young people, representatives from youth organisations within Carmarthenshire, who will be responsible for assessing project applications and deciding which projects get funding, and how much they get.
The Youth Forum will use the money to encourage young people to volunteer on the new Bwlch motorbiking project.
The Forum’s aim is to represent all the youth of Morfa and the surrounding area within Glanymor. Through interaction with local young people, it has become clear that motorbike scrambling is a pursuit that young people are passionate about and they continually enquire about the opportunity to partake in this activity.
Senior Youth Worker for the Llanelli area, Huw Thomas said:“The grant will be used to recruit and train five volunteers to support the project. The young volunteers will undertake a two-day training course in off-road riding and in exchange the volunteers will dedicate a minimum of 100 hours towards the project.
“We are very grateful for the support received from CAVS and we hope the project will encourage young people to practice safe riding.”
Initially five young people will be trained, but in time eighty young people from the area will benefit from the project. Open College Network certificates (OCN) will be available in Motorbike maintenance and riding for the young people involved.
The 2010 – 2011 grant will be running again from April onwards. If you know a group who might like to apply for the Youth Led Grant or if you’re a young person who would like to find out more about volunteering then please contact Fflur Hughes, Children & Young People’s Volunteering Officer at CAVS on 01267 245 555.
