What a gloomy sporting weekend
Wales - lost.
Carmarthen Town - lost.
Llanelli Reds - lost.
Triple whammy!
I am speechless about Wales.
The Reds crashed out of the Welsh Cup with a disappointing performance at Bangor City. In front of a crowd of 820, the Reds went behind as early as the 6th minute when Jamie Reed scored from a penalty. This was after Stuart Jones received a red card for conceding the penalty and denying the attacker an obvious goal scoring opportunity. The Reds batlled hard to get back into the game with ten men but they squandered the few chances they created. Bangor sealed a semi final spot when Dave Morley scored the second in stoppage time.
Here is the Carmarthen Town AFC website match report on the Town v Airbus match which finished 0-1 -
With little between the sides throughout the outcome was settled by a last minute error from Town keeper Neil Thomas. Having been a hero on so many occasions the experienced keeper was dispossessed in front of goal gifting sub Josh Johnson the easiest of goals from three yards.
With both sides on equal points Town welcomed back Craig Hughes & Craig Hanford from injury and Nicky Palmer also returned on the bench. For the Wingmakers, who were looking for a first win at Richmond, Jack Abraham returned from suspension and Tom Rowlands from injury.
Both sides started positively with Town winning a number of early set pieces and the first opportunity when Airbus keeper Rogers just managed to get his foot to a Chris Thomas free kick to clear off the goal line. On the twenty minute mark Feliciello's low cross across the face of the Town goal just needed a finishing touch and a couple of minutes later the wingman again provided the cross which McIntosh headed over.
The best chance of the half fell to Airbus. Abraham broke well from defence to play in Owen who was denied by Thomas who saved well with his feet. For Town Danny Thomas had a couple of half chances in the box but with the ball falling away from him on both occasions it remained goalless at the break.
The second half developed into an entertaining and competitive end to end encounter with Airbus, initially, having slightly the better possession. Around the hour mark Cotterrall and Palmer replaced Hughes and Smothers and Town immediately regained momentum raiding well down the left. Both sides looked for a winner but with defences on top chances were few and far between.
On the 80 minute mark Thomas did well to palm over Allen's header off Felicello's free kick. Then with the game heading for stalemate Thomas looked to dribble out Chris Thomas' back pass only to be caught in possession by the sub who sidefooted into an empty net to claim a fortuitous but very valuable three points for his side.
Town: N Thomas, C Hanford, N Smothers, D Griffiths, C Thomas, D Thomas, T Hicks, P Fowler, C Hughes, M Pritchard Subs: B Morris, N Cotterrall, N Palmer, S James (Y).
Airbus: K Rogers, R Edwards, R Roberts, M Woodward, M Allan, J Abraham, A Williams, D Desormeaux, C Owen, J McIntosh, G Feliciello Subs: M L Williams, T Rowlands, J Johnson.
