Hywel Dda doctor appointed Wales’ first national clinical lead for stroke services


Dr Phil Jones, Consultant Physician at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth, has been appointed as Wales’ first national clinical lead for stroke services.
As national clinical lead, he will work with the Welsh Government and NHS Wales to take forward and oversee the continued implementation of the Stroke Delivery Plan and lead improvements in stroke care across Wales.
Dr Jones is a consultant physician with an interest in care of the elderly and sub-specialty interests in neurology and rehabilitation.
Health Minister Mark Drakeford Professor Drakeford said: “I’m very pleased to confirm the appointment of Dr Jones as the first national clinical lead for stroke care.
“Dr Jones has considerable experience in his field and I look forward to working with him as he provides clinical leadership to transform stroke services in Wales so we improve services for the better.”
Dr Jones, said: “Stroke services in Wales have improved measurably over the last few years but there is still more we can do. I am confident we can make further progress and deliver the best services for our patients.”
Congratulating Dr Jones, Chief Executive (Interim) of Hywel Dda University Health Board, Karen Howell said: “Dr Jones’ appointment is a testament to the years of dedication to improving stroke care provided for patients at Bronglais and also across Wales. I wish to congratulate Dr Jones and wish him the very best of luck with his new appointment.”
Dr Jones will continue to work as a Consultant Physician at Bronglais Hospital.

My Civil Partner & next of kin Linda Parry. Has been a patient of this consultant since 2007. for firstly her epilepsy& now over the last year she had a stroke on the 5th oct . we have always had respect & great faith in him. I am afraid he has now Let us down as Linda is showing all the signs of a further stroke having taken place. ( which our Gp Dr D Church from Machynlleth health centre is also in agreement with me . i now have to go to a private hospital for a 2nd opinion. what has happened to his duty of care & the hypocratic oath he took .Catherine Hands .
