Support to help you quit smoking for good this Stoptober!

Stoptober is back and smokers across Wales are being encouraged to join the challenge today!
Throughout September and October, Stop Smoking Wales will be offering support through the 28 day stop smoking challenge, Stoptober.
The challenge is based on research which shows that if you can stop smoking for 28 days, you are five times more likely to stay quit.
Members of Hywel Dda’s Public Health Team, Stop Smoking Wales and Hywel Dda University Health Board’s Smoking Cessation team will also be out and about in town centres in areas where there are a large number of smokers over the next few weeks.
Caroline Nichols, Health Promotion Practitioner said: “We are looking forward to spreading the word about Stoptober and encourage anyone who may be considering quitting to come and see us. We’ll be available to talk to or if you would simply like more information about the Stoptober challenge or the free support available to you locally to help you quit please drop by!”
The team will be on hand should anyone wish to have a chat about the support available to quit smoking or to find out more about Stoptober.
The team will be in Pembroke Dock Library Tuesday 16 September, Llanelli Town Centre on Thursday 18 September, Haverfordwest Riverside Shopping Centre on Friday 19 September and Owain Glyndwr Square, Aberystwyth on Tuesday 23 September.
Teresa Owen, Director of Public Health at Hywel Dda University Health Board said: “The health risks of smoking have been for well known for over 60 years but it is still the single largest cause of avoidable death in Wales. Whilst smoking rates have fallen around 66,000 adults smoke in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
“If anyone is considering quitting smoking but is not sure where to begin then this is a great time to get started. Last year over 160,000 people in Wales and England successfully quit smoking for Stoptober and there is no reason why you can’t be one of them this year.”
If you’d like to take up the Stoptober challenge and quit smoking alongside thousands across Wales then there is plenty of support available to you.
