Calling all carers in Carmarthenshire

Carers are being encouraged to attend an event which aims to help them with money matters.
Cllr Pat Jones, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Carers Champion, is urging as many people as possible to attend the special event which is being organised by Carmarthenshire Carers Service.
It is being held at Llanelli’s Stradey Park Hotel on Friday, December 2nd, which is also Carers Rights Day - a national awareness day organised by Carers UK.
From 10am and 3pm, carers will be able to learn more about entitlements, as well as the range of support services available to them locally.
Cllr Jones believes that carers could benefit greatly from attending on the day.
“There are over 22,000 unpaid carers in Carmarthenshire alone,” she said. “Without these carers – most of whom look after relatives – there would be a huge burden on the county and so it is only right that we help them understand what help and support they are entitled to.
“I really do hope that as many carers as possible come along on the day.”
Joanne Silverthorne, Coordinator of Carmarthenshire Carers Service added: “If you are looking after older or disabled relatives money matters – carers face higher energy bills for example and have often given up work to care. Our event will provide vital advice and information to anyone looking after an ill family member to make sure they know their rights to financial and practical support.”
Refreshments will be available on the day and replacement care can be arranged. Booking forms are available by calling Carmarthenshire Carers Service on 0300 0200 002 or by emailing carers@cavs.org.uk
