Burry Port Town Band win contest in Blaenavon
On Saturday, Burry Port Town Band won the Championship Section at the EWBBA Championships held in Blaenavon.
Whilst the Band came home with the Dewar Challenge Trophy for the winning band, their Soprano Cornet player, Jayne Thomas won the Best Instrumentalist and their Solo Trombone, Geraint Thomas won the Selwyn James Trophy for the best Trombone player.
Burry Port Town Band’s Chairman, Graham Howe, said “The band have worked exceptionally hard over the last weeks on this test piece, but the hard work paid off, the soloists and the band played exceptionally well and we’re now all looking forward to the Christmas period where the band is very busy out and about in Llanelli and Burry Port.”
The band faced some stiff competition to win the Championships and playing Peter Grahams’s On Alderley Edge were facing some talented competition with seven other bands from South Wales in the last contest of the season.
