Carmarthenshire spotlight on crime and disorder
Carmarthenshire councillors are being given extra responsibilities for looking at the issues of crime and disorder.
This month’s meeting of the county council agreed that the authority’s social justice scrutiny committee should be renamed the social justice, crime and disorder scrutiny committee.
The committee will have annual reports from authorities such as the police, and fire service and will have power to scrutinise crime and disorder and substance misuse strategies that the authorities are jointly required to formulate and implement under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
A crime and disorder matter includes anti-social behaviour or other behaviour adversely affecting the local environment, or the misuse of drugs, alcohol or other substances.
