A48 road safety measures considered

A number of junction safety measures are being considered along the A48 from Pont Abraham to Carmarthen.
This follows fatal accidents in recent years at the Cwmgwili Junction where consideration is being given to closure of some central reservations which will deny right turn movements and U-turns.
The Welsh Assembly Government, their agents the South Wales Trunk Road Agency and their consultants, including Carmarthenshire County Council, wish to avoid a situation where one junction is treated in isolation.
They are all concerned treating just one junction would move any problem and potential risks along to the next junction.
For this reason the First Minister is seeking a holistic approach to the section from Pont Abraham to Cross Hands. All representations will be reported to the County Council’s executive board for consideration.
The measures proposed require the making of Traffic Regulation Orders.
The Assembly has asked the Authority to initiate the process of making these Orders. This involves a prescribed legal process.
All objections received during this period including those already received will be carefully considered and a report will be prepared for the council’s executive board.
