Cross duathlon comes to Pembrey Country Park

Pembrey Country Park will play host to a cross duathlon next month.
The unique off road event will be held on Sunday, February 28 and is the only one of its type overseen by Welsh Triathlon.
The courses will suit all abilities with a fun, fast mountain bike course and an undulating run including a short section on the beach (tide and weather).
It’s open to over 14s with a choice of full route – 10km off road run, 22km off road bike, 5km off road run - or sprint/youth distances - 5km off road run, 11km off road bike, 2.5km off road run.
Cyclocross bikes will be allowed, but the course will be designed primarily for mountain bikes.
The superb fast and flowing single track event starts at 10am and Entries are available online through British Triathlon. Usual car parking charges apply at £2.
The council’s executive board member for leisure, Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “The terrain at the park is perfect and continues to show its diversity for hosting all kinds of events throughout the year.”
Pembrey Country Park has a maze of singletrack and double track trails that are perfect for running or cycling on.
Organiser and Carmarthenshire resident, Matt Page of A Cycling said: “Using our extensive experience of events within the park we will create fun but challenging run and bike courses will be a mixture of single track and double track with a short section along the beach during the run. Neither course is technically demanding making it suitable for everyone, but strong mountain bikers will love the fast, swooping single track. The full distance course will involve 2 laps of a 4km run followed by 2 laps of a 12km mountain bike before a final lap of the run. Sprint/beginner distance will be 1 lap of run, bike followed by a shortened final 2km run leg.”
