Susan Roberts takes over as President of Llanelli Rotary Club


The new President of Llanelli Rotary Club is Mrs Susan Roberts.
She succeeded Hywel Bassett at the club's annual Handover dinner held at the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli.
Immediate Past President Hywel said it was a great pleasure to see Mrs Roberts take over the presidential duties and he wished her well during her year of office.
Rotarian Jo Isaac pledged the support of members of Llanelli Rotary Club during the formal handover.
Mrs Roberts expressed her delight at taking over as club President and added that she was looking forward to a great year of community activities and fund-raising.
Mrs Roberts was born Llanelli and attended the old Llanelli Girls' Grammar School.
After graduating in Institutional and hotel management, she went onto the King's Fund College for Officers (NHS) London as a management trainee.
She spent three years based at the college in London and having practical work experience at a variety of hospitals throughout Wales.
Mrs Roberts spent the next 27 years in the NHS in a variety of roles, finally becoming the Director of Facilities at the Prince Philip Hospital and the Trust.
Mrs Roberts was a visiting lecturer on Facilities Management at Strathclyde University Business School.
She undertook work with the World Health Organisation as part of the Health Promoting Hospitals Project visiting a number of centres across Europe.
She has always had a particular interest in health promotion.
When she left the NHS she did a period of consultancy work before moving to work for the British Red Cross as a senior manager.
She retired in 2013.
She has been a Rotarian since 2004.
In her first year as a member, she climbed Kilimanjaro and raised £10,000 for the Charity Hope and Homes for Children.
She has been a Trustee for Age Cymru Sir Gar since autumn 2014.
She is a Trustee of the Cambrian Heritage Regeneration Trust (formerly the Carmarthenshire HRT) and Llanelly House.
Married with one son, her interests include classical music and supporting young musicians.
The new senior vice-president of Llanelli Rotary Club is Rotarian Mark Evans. The junior vice-president is John (JC) Williams MBE.
