Barry Liles the guest speaker at first Swansea Bay Business Club West Wales lunch



Swansea Bay Business Club is delighted to welcome Barry Liles, Principal of Coleg Sir Gar and Board Member of Swansea Bay City Region as our guest speaker for the club's first West Wales lunch.
Barry took up the post of Principal/CEO at Coleg Sir Gâr in August 2010, having worked at the College for over 27 years. Prior to his appointment he was Faculty Manager for Engineering & the Built Environment.
Barry has been extensively involved with work based learning and, as a former engineering apprentice himself, recognises the opportunities such training and development provides.
In June 2010, Barry was appointed by the Welsh Government as Skills Champion for Wales. Throughout his career he has had a keen interest in Skills development and has promoted Skills Competitions extensively within Wales. Barry chairs a Skills Champions Network in Wales, represents Wales on the UK Portfolio Group for Worldskills and is also a Trustee of Find a Future (formerly the Skills Show)
Barry is a strong advocate of entrepreneurship in the curriculum and has contributed extensively to initiatives such as incubation support, business and self-employment development. He is currently an Executive Board member of Carmarthenshire Construction Training Association Ltd and Board member of Cyfle, the South West Wales Shared Apprenticeship Programme.
In 2013 Barry was appointed as a Board member of the Swansea Bay City Region and in 2014 appointed Chair of the Carmarthenshire Local Service Board.
Regionally, Barry is Chair of the Strategy Board of the South West Wales Regional Learning Partnership. During the period 2011-2013 Barry led the merger of Coleg Sir Gar into the University of Wales Trinity Saint David Group as a limited company with charitable status.
In addition to being Principal of Coleg Sir Gar, Barry is a member of the senior directorate of the University in his role as a Provost. In 2013 Barry was recognised in the Leading Wales Awards achieving the Leadership in the Public Sector Award.
The lunch takes place on Friday, April 17 at Parc Y Scarlets, and includes a two course lunch with tea and coffee. Please arrive for a 12:15 for 1pm start.
