Eddie Martin to headline Evan-Evans Llandeilo Jazz Festival



A top-class line-up of musicians has been secured for the first Evan-Evans Llandeilo Jazz Festival, over the weekend July 6-8.
The festival, which is a free ticket event, will be based at the town’s pubs and will feature a line-up that will appeal to all jazz tastes from Trad to Blues and Gypsy jazz.
Festival organiser Simon Buckley said: “The festival is now getting into full swing.
“The bands are booked and we believe that we have a great line-up for the festival visitors.
“The headline act at The White Horse on the Saturday night will be Eddie Martin’s Blues Band.”
Mr Buckley, Chief Executive of the Evan-Evans Brewery, added: “The tickets will be free and all people have to do is go on line and register and then download the tickets.
“We will have a jazz festival office open 10 days before the festival starts for those that do not have a computer or access to the internet. So everyone will be able to get tickets.
“There will be plenty of accommodation and campsites for those that want to stay over, with a special Morning café Jazz at Breakfast!
“On the Sunday we hope that people will come and picnic in Penlan Park and listen to local jazz bands from the Tywi Valley.
“This is going to be a wonderful weekend of music and fun and we want people to come to Llandeilo and have a great time.
“Festival visitors will have the opportunity to taste the very best of Tywi Valley food and there will be a wonderful new beer for the festival.
“The Llandeilo Jazz Festival is set to become an annual event and we at Evan-Evans Brewery are proud to be a part of this annual event.”
With 12 rave-reviewed albums to his name, Eddie Martin (pictured above) has a reputation for updating blues traditions with wit, skill and energy.

'Class of 1980' from Burry Port enjoy reunion

There was a big class reunion held in Burry Port at the weekend. Members of the Class of 1980 from Porth Tywyn (Burry Port junior) School got together at The Coasting Pilot pub. The reunion was organised by Christine Rees and same 22 members of the original class of 28 turn up to discuss their old schooldays. One ‘Class of 1980’ member was Burry Port businessman Owain Davies. He said: “We all have very happy memories of our time in school. We had a fantastic teacher in Mr Heddwyn Jones, who now lives in Four Roads. “We were very fortunate to have the same teacher for three years and we were a very happy class. Mr Jones was an inspiring teacher and we all got on every well and we are all still good friends. “Heather Thomas (now Heather Osmond) made it from Surrey, but she was trumped by Gail Morris, who flew in from Ohio in the United States for the reunion. “It was a fantastic evening at the Coasting Pilot with good food, good wine and good company. Ammanford-based Lauryn Davey is making a major mark in the world of Welsh athletics. At just 16, she is the best all-round athlete of her age in Wales. She's chalking up Welsh championship victories and has been honoured by her club, the Carmarthen Harriers. Lauryn's been earmarked as a future international star, but knows the road to the big championships is difficult, demanding and expensive. Ammanford businessman and well-known comic entertainer Phil Evans has launched a campaign to get cash backers for Lauryn's athletics career.
