Countdown on to Carmarthen Bay Film Festival
The countdown is well and truly on, with just over 150 days to go to the start of the first Carmarthen Bay Film Festival.
The team behind the festival – the first of its kind to be held in Llanelli – is busy putting together a varied programme of events.
“The aim is simple,” said festival chief executive Kelvin Guy. “We want to showcase Welsh and Wales-based film-makers.
“In doing so, we also want to create as much community involvement as possible and really help to put Llanelli on the map for film.”
Mr Guy is well known for his work as the biographer of the very first Welsh star in Hollywood, Gareth Hughes.
“Llanelli’s links with the world of film and cinema go back to the very start of the industry and we will be working hard to explore the many links between Llanelli and Wales and the world of the movies,” said Mr Guy.
“But this won’t be an event just looking back at the past. We want to celebrate and recognise the very best new talent we have in Wales and, hopefully, help to put budding film-makers and film stars on the road to success.”
The film festival will start on May 8, running through to the weekend of May12-13.
The highlight of the festival will be an awards ceremony and gala dinner of Sunday, May 13.
Mr Guy added: “As the countdown to the event starts in earnest, we will be releasing news about the team behind the festival, the event categories and the special themed events we have planned.
“An exciting programme is taking shape and we will also be explaining over the next few weeks how people can get involved to take part in the festival and help with its organisation. The festival is really taking shape and we are looking forward to sharing our ideas with film lovers over the next few weeks.”
